Some members of the Mighty Hornet Marching Band attended SAU Band Day on Saturday, where they played with the Mulerider Marching Band during the football halftime show. These Hornets showed their passion for their hobby and helped deliver a strong performance for the game’s spectators.
“I was excited to perform,” drum major Calvin Duncan said. “I felt like we gave a great performance.”
The Hornets registered at 9:30 a.m., then rehearsed with the Mulerider Marching Band from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. They performed with the band for a team walkthrough, had a break for lunch, and participated in a pep rally before heading to the stands for kickoff at 2:00 p.m.
“SAU is one of the colleges I want to attend, and last year’s Band Day was so fun that I just had to go again,” colorguard member Callie Jones said.
After SAU performed their usual halftime show, all high-school band students — a total of 147 — filled in the gaps in their sections and began their performance. The final song the band performed with the high school students was the school fight song before the students were dismissed to return to the stands.
“I was pretty happy about how I did,” tuba section leader Landon Kahler said. “I enjoyed being there; I’d say it lived up to my expectations.”
The SAU football game finished with a win and a final performance by the Mulerider Marching Band. The day ended on a high note with group photos, smiles, and no regrets.
