The Mighty Hornet Band attended the Area C UIL competition on Tuesday, October 21st, in a great effort to please a panel of judges in order to advance to the Area marching contest. Unfortunately, despite the band’s many hours of hard work, they earned a 1-2-2, just one rating short of an overall superior rating of 1. The directors and the community alike are incredibly proud of what the students have accomplished.
Following this, the band has already begun transitioning into their indoor concert season while still performing at the remaining football games for the season. Students in the band will individually audition for the respective “Varsity Symphonic” or “Non-Varsity Concert” ensembles. This will allow the whole band to split into two separate groups, enabling each student to grow as a musician and individual at their respective skill level.
Along with the transition into concert season, a handful of students will be auditioning for the All-Region band in December. All-Region is a competition in which musicians from all over the area audition against each other in order to earn a spot in one of two ensembles with musicians who are like themselves. Making the All-Region band requires many hours of individual practice, and only the most determined musicians make it and have the honor of playing with these ensembles.
