On April 1st, HHS academic teams went to the Region 8 Center, in Pittsburg, to compete in the UIL Academic District Tournament. Then, they returned on April 8th for the UIL Speech District tournament.
The school took a total of 33 kids to compete and took home 32 top 6 placements, along with one academic event team placing second overall and another two placing first overall. Of those placements, 19 of them were in the top 3, meaning they advanced to the UIL Academic Regional Tournament, and the two first place teams also advanced as a team.
Each placement earns the school points towards a shot at winning the academic sweepstakes award, as well as the journalism and speech sweepstakes awards. With Hooks total points combined, the school earned the Academic Sweepstakes award for the second year in a row.
The speech team also took home first overall, earning them the Speech Sweepstakes award.
