Hooks ISD had the honor of showing recognition to three students who reached 1,000 points in basketball, Senior Carveion Johnson, Senior Keyshawn Walls, and Junior Anna-Beth Black. All three players have worked exceedingly hard to achieve this goal throughout their years at Hooks High School.

After the varsity girls won against Sabine with a score of 61-16 on Jan. 2nd, both Johnson and Black received gifts from their families and coaches for their hard work.

When asked what she feels about attaining 1000 points, Black said, “I am glad that I achieved this goal, especially for the team. It gets the team more recognition.”

Black received a personalized basketball, and Johnson received a plaque from their coaches. They were also gifted balloons and a gift basket from friends and family. After receiving their gifts, they took pictures with their family, fellow players, and coaches.

“She is a perfect example of a student athlete, and the athlete every coach wants to have,” Assistant Coach Bridget Upton said.

Black’s coaches were incredibly proud of her accomplishing this fantastic feat and look forward to her playing more in the future. Johnson’s coaches were also extremely impressed with his hard work and dedication to the sport.

“It’s really cool to see kids rewarded for their hard work,” Michael Jackson, Vice Principal and Varsity Boys Head Basketball Coach, said. “Carveion is, without a doubt, one of the hardest workers in our program.”

The players hard work, determination, and dedication was essential to achieving this award. Incredibly, they accomplished this while still being team players.

“It took some skill and some teamwork,” replied Johnson, when asked about his feelings toward the award and the recognition that came with it.

Later on Jan. 30th, before sealing a 93-45 win against the Redwater Dragons, Walls was recognized for his achievement of reaching 1000 career points.

“It was hard at first. I didn’t think I could get 1000 points,” Walls said. “It took resilience and hard work.”

Walls received balloons and a gift basket from his friends and family and was presented a plaque from his coach.

“I’m really proud of the player Keyshawn has become. This accomplishment is proof of him being a productive player all three years he was on varsity,” Jackson said. “It is also exciting to have two seniors accomplish individual awards after accomplishing so much as a team.”

Congratulations to all three players for reaching their 1,000-point milestones!
