The Lady Hornets defeated New Boston 17-1 on the Lions own territory on Friday, April 15th.

In the first inning, the Hornets started off batting. Everyone in the lineup had an opportunity to step up to the plate and they all excelled. They all worked as a team to move runners around, get them into a scoring position. Third baseman and sophomore Kinsley Birdwell caught a line drive for the first out against the Lions, followed by sophomore pitcher Maddie Campbell, with two strikeouts ending the first inning with a score of 5-0.

At the end of the second inning, Hornets still lead with a score of 7-0.

“We had a really good game,” Birdwell said. “Maddie had pitched really well and we all had fun.”

In the third inning, off a bunt, the ball was missed when thrown to second baseman, junior Jordan Ragland, who then recovered the ball, and threw it to freshman Zoey Greenwood, who stepped in from centerfield and tagged the girl at the last minute. The Lions managed to score, ending that inning with a score of 7-1.

Batting declined a bit after the first inning but picked up again in the fifth inning. Defense went smoothly, though there were a couple errors. There was a lot of support in the crowds, which made it an entertaining game. The Lady Hornets, at the end of the fifth, came out on top with the final score of 17-1.

“It was a very good game and I was super impressed in how well the team pulled together to make the run rule happen!” Campbell said. “It was a good win and I am super glad to be a part of this team.”
