The Hornet Band has had a very busy schedule for Homecoming week and the week following. Let’s take a look at what the Mighty Hornets have been up to!
To start off the week of Homecoming, the Hornet Band rehearsed consecutively on Monday and Tuesday to prepare the drill and music for part 3 of their first marching invitational at Pleasant Grove’s Hawk Stadium.
On Wednesday, seniors Calvin Duncan, Jessica Autrey, Chloe Rizo, Mackenzie Collins, Corbin Curtis, Sedar Alderson, and junior Deonna Johnson met at Bubba’s 33 to represent the band for the annual Hornet Takeover hosted by Texarkana Gameday.
The band followed this with yet another rehearsal on Thursday to really lock in their confidence in their music. Then, on Friday, the Homecoming festivities began. At 11:15 a.m., the Hornet Drumline marched down the halls to lead the student body to the gym to begin the pep rally, where an ensemble of roughly 20 students performed while the princesses and their escorts walked down during their introductions.
Following the pep rally came the annual parade, where drum major and Homecoming queen Jessica Autrey, along with her escort and fellow drum major Calvin Duncan, led the Hornets down the parade route.
To end the month of September with a bang, the Mighty Hornet Band hosted their annual Fire Ant Classic drumline contest on Tuesday, September 30th, after school, starting with their own exhibition performance at 3:45 p.m. Alongside this, the band will once again be joining the football team this Friday at their game against the Timpson Bears. They will be leaving the school at 3:00 p.m. to arrive on time and be prepared for the kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
Following the football game, the band will be performing on the 4th at 1:15 p.m. at Texas High School’s Grim Stadium, with tickets priced at $5 for adults and $3 for children and students.
