Burgandy Crouse graduated high school from Hooks, received her bachelor’s degree from Northwestern State University, and earned her master’s degree from Texas A&M University. For Mrs. Crouse, it was a very hard and stressful task trying to obtain her teaching degree.
After graduating from Hooks, Mrs. Crouse really wanted to become a history teacher, as she always enjoyed teaching kids and spending time with them. However, she did have her own journey. The original plan was to become an archaeologist and work in a museum that educates children about artifacts and more. Luckily for her, she got the job but then decided it wasn’t exactly what she wanted.
“I wanted something more secure with my husband, so I decided to get my teaching degree,” Mrs. Crouse said.
Mrs. Crouse has been a high school teacher for World History and World Civilization for two years now, both of which she enjoys equally. She taught winter guard and color guard at Hooks for eleven years and says that she prefers winter guard. Although she loves her coworkers in color guard, she likes having full control over everything, as she does in winter guard.
She initially planned on only working one year with the guard to have a job between her college and master’s degree, but eventually, she found herself enjoying having a creative outlet. One thing led to another, and when she decided to pursue her teaching degree, she applied and got a job here.
“Now I can say I enjoy my job,” Mrs. Crouse said.
Her favorite part about being a teacher is by far the students. Mrs. Crouse has made some close connections with many of them. In her opinion, a lot of her students are really nice, and she enjoys spending time with them. She does have trouble with some students who are noisy, but in the end, it all works out, and she has a good time with her students.
If you take Mrs. Crouse’s class, her advice to you is to get your work done. As long as you submit your work on time, you will have a fun time in class.
Mrs. Crouse’s favorite quote is, “Girls should never be afraid to be smart,” by actress Emma Watson.
