The State competition for the Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) will be held in Round Rock, Texas at the Kalahari Resort on Wednesday, February 28th. The HHS chapter recently advanced to State after competing at the Texas A&M University in Texarkana Area Conference on December 8th.
TAFE is a club that encourages students to explore careers in education, public speaking, and service. Students competed in events that aim to prepare them for their professional careers, including: creating a children’s book, making a bulletin board, debating, and impromptu speaking.
“We all came together, got the events done, and helped each other stay calm and motivated,” TAFE President Hailee Hill said.
A total of seven participants went to the Area competition and six of them: Chito Vasquez, Rachel Tyree, Abby Kyles, Katherine Kyles, Hailee Hill, and Karyssa Riley, advanced to the State competition.
“I learned that no matter how stressful competitions may be, if you work as a team it all works out,” Hill said. “It was a great experience and I’m so glad that I am a part of this organization!”
