On October 28th, the Mighty Hornet Marching Band progressed farther than any time before in the Conference AAA Area Marching contest, held at Stephen F. Austin Homer Bryce Stadium. The band has made it to the Regional finals, but this time made history as they advanced all the way to Area finals.
“So considering that we made finals at every competition I was thinking that we would make it to finals at Area,” Sophomore Chloe Rizo said. “I had pretty high hopes that we were making it.”
The band managed to rank 10th out of 17 bands in the preliminary round. The top 10 bands in the preliminary rounds were then promoted to play in the finals to determine who will play in San Antonio for the UIL conference AAA State marching band contest.
“I was super happy, it was the first time the band had made it to Area finals,” Rizo said. “I was just happy I was a part of the band when we made it.”
Following the final performances, all of the bands gather on the field behind the drum majors and color guard. Although the Hornets did not qualify for state, they took time to wish the other bands good luck.
“Even though Hooks didn’t make the top five and advance it to state, we went around congratulating the other bands on making it to state,” Rizo said.
The final score for the Band was 9th out of 10 bands in the finals.
