The Mighty Hornet Marching band attended their first contest on September 30, 2023 at Pleasant Grove Stadium.
“Since last year, when we got last place, I didn’t think we would make finals,” sophomore Sa’miyaa Robinson said. “I think we came a long way, 6th place in finals out of 8 bands. I feel like if we work harder we will go farther.”
Invitational marching contests are great practice for the band to score high at UIL, advance to Area and hopefully make it to State.
After the band performed in the preliminary round their scores were announced. The Mighty Hornet Band scored a 1 for color guard, a 1 for the band and a 2 for the percussion. This was enough for them to outscore 3 other bands and progress to finals.
“Personally I didn’t think we would make it that far in finals,” Robinson said. “ We could have done worse. At finals I thought we would have performed about the same as prelims. I feel like next time we will be less stressed since we know what the bands look like.”
