Theater teacher, Ms. Woods, is currently in her third year at Hooks High School. To start the interview, Ms. Woods was asked about what actually goes on in a theater class.
“A lot of different things happen in a theater class,” Woods said. “Sometimes normal stuff, sometimes crazy stuff. Depending on the class you’re in, we’ll work on making sets and props, and of course acting, because, you know, it’s a theater class.”
The theater department is split up into two to three different classes: advanced theater, theater 1, and theater production.
“Our main goal is to improve on our acting abilities,” Woods said, “The whole endgame is to be able to do well in competition during the UIL One Act Performance.” When asked about her plans for One Act Performance, Woods said, “ Of course I could tell you, but then I would have to kill you.”
In comparison to last year’s class of ten to fifteen students, this year’s five students is quite the change.
“You can actually do a lot with five; really and truly, you only need three students in order to run a one-act performance, but I will definitely pull some kids from the other theater class just so that we can have a wide range of cast and crew,” Woods said.
