Hooks FFA kicked off the school year with the annual Hooks FFA Summer Blowout livestock show, held Saturday, Aug. 26th, at the show barn off Interstate 30. Livestock showmen from all over the state of Texas joined Hooks to show their cattle, goats, or pigs.
The Hooks FFA livestock show-team members hosted as well as attended the event, working hard to make the day a success.
“The hardest part this year has been getting everything together in the heat,” Head Ag Teacher Stephanie Loe said. “In general, it’s making sure people are going to be at the show.”
Cattle showmanship started promptly at 6:00 pm with classes that followed and small animal showmanship was held prior to the start of each breed. Prizes were given out to reserve, and breed champions as well as overall reserve, and supreme champion animals.
“The most challenging thing about showing is having to wake up so early, and rolling out of bed isn’t something I’m good at,” Kimberly Vazquez, junior show team member, said.
