HHS cheer to compete at UIL competition despite injury

The HHS cheerleaders will compete in a UIL cheer competition tomorrow, at 1:42 p.m. in Fort Worth. The girls have worked tirelessly on their routine and even enlisted the help of Texas High and Pleasant Grove coaches. Their routine consists of stunts, flag waving, and chants.

“This is the first year HHS has attended the UIL Spirit Competition,” Cheer Coach Lisa Tullis said. “The squad has worked extremely hard and is so excited for the experience!”

However, the team has recently suffered a setback in the form of an ankle injury to varsity cheerleader Alee Winniford. During a practice earlier this week, Winniford’s ankle snapped. The team had to rush to rework the performance, with only a few days left until competition. To make up for Alee’s absence, they inducted a Hornet color guard member, Hailee Hill.

“We definitely didn’t expect this setback, but we will adapt to the situation and persevere,” Varsity Cheerleader Jaidyn Henderson said. “We will win this for Alee.”
