Hooks community kicks cancer
October 12, 2022
Coloring sheets outlined as boots will be displayed at the pink-out game on October 21st, to emphasize Hooks community’s desire to “kick” cancer. This initiative is being led by STUCO and the Leadership class, who sent the coloring sheets out to the elementary and junior high in order to make this a community effort. At the high school, there will be a long sheet of paper hung up in one of the hallways for students and teachers to write down which cancers they are fighting for, which will also be hanging on the fence at our pink-out game to show our support for people struggling with cancer.
“Even though October is known as Breast Cancer Awareness month, we’re making sure our campus shines light on all cancers,” Leadership teacher and Student Council advisor Audrey Cellers said.
Additionally, STUCO is having their first ever King of the Hive competition. To participate, high school boys will sign up and be nominated by teachers to dress up in their best cow boy gear and carry around a boot to gather money. Whoever ends up getting the most money is crowned the King of the Hive. All the proceeds gathered will go to the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
