Effective Immediately

HISD to ban outside food, drinks at athletic facilities

Hooks ISD committee voted on a new rule to go into effect immediately: No outside food or drink can be brought into Hooks athletic facilities. According to the HHS principal, Mrs. Shannon, the ban will be effective in the gym, football field, baseball field, and softball field.

“There are other districts that do this,” Shannon said. “We are getting new facilities, and [selling food and drinks at games are] fundraisers for various organizations, like the athletic department, etc.”

HHS runs concession stands at athletic events, selling soda, candy, and more. Rather than Sonic or Scooters, they want food and drink sales to go to Hooks ISD. Vice Principal Jackson said that the ban would affect athletes as well, since spectators will not be able to have outside food or drinks in the stands, neither will the student athletes.

However, athletes will be allowed to have food or drink inside locker rooms, field houses, or anywhere they can keep it hidden, in order to make the situation fair for all who attend.
